that with all of National's legacy systems.
Lotus Notes is the primary workflow agent for
Sales Force Automation and that combined with
Personalized Transaction Sites for customers,
creates a very productive Web presence. Increasing
service for the design engineer is National's
primary objective and improving the productivity
of the purchasing agents that support them is
the result of the use of these technologies.

A 20-year veteran
of the commercial publishing industry, Mark
Walter specializes in helping publishers analyze
editorial management and electronic publishing
technologies. As editor of The Seybold Report
on Internet Publishing he directs Seybold's
editorial coverage of Web publishing, and he
has spearheaded the company's reporting on SGML-
and XML-related technologies. Prior to joining
Seybold in 1987 he held technology analyst,
editorial, and production positions at McGraw-Hill,
Temple University Press, and the Philadelphia
service bureau Editing, Design & Production.
As a consultant, Mark specializes in helping
publishers select technology to automate editorial
and production processes for Web and cross-media
publishing. Technical areas of expertise include
content and asset management, SGML/XML, and
cross-media publishing systems. Clients include
both commercial and corporate publishers, such
as the American Medical Association, Matthew
Bender, Merck & Co., the U.S. General Accounting
Office, Bell Northern Research, and R.R. Donnelley,
among others. Mark also serves on the editorial
team of XML.com, a Web resource for XML professionals.

Michael Maziarka is the Director of the Dynamic
Content Software Strategies service at CAP Ventures,
providing research and consulting services on
document and content management software technology.
Prior to joining CAPV, Michael held corporate
and product marketing positions at Xyvision
and Datalogics. During his tenure at CAPV, Xyvision,
and Datalogics, Mr. Maziarka was active in industry
initiatives. Michael held the Chair position
on the Board of Directors for OASIS (formerly
SGML Open); was active in the development of
the CALS electronic publishing standards; and
participated in J2008 and ANSI committee work.
Michael holds an MBA from DePaul University
and a B.S. degree in computer engineering from
Iowa State University.

Mr. Goulde is recognized

Monetary Fund, LIDs, Boo.com, State Street Bank
and Trust, Schein Pharmaceutical, Summit Partners,
Hale & Dorr, and others. He has also provided
consulting services for software and systems
providers such as Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft,

to joining the group, Goulde was vice president
at Open Systems Advisors Incorporated. Prior
to that, he founded and directed BIS CAP International's

for document imaging and workflow applications.
Goulde has also served as the director of Small
Computer Research at The Yankee Group. A frequent
speaker and panel moderator at industry seminars
and conferences, Goulde holds a B.S. degree
from Pennsylvania State University, an M.S.
degree in psychology from Rutgers University,
and an M.B.A. from Northeastern University.

Get the latest developments in the W3C directly
from those who are defining and developing the
new standards. Dan Connolly from W3C will host
a lively panel update on recommended and emerging
Web standards. Dan was the chair of the W3C Working
Group that produced HTML 3.2 and HTML 4.0, and
collaborated with Jon Bosak to form the W3C XML
Working Group and produce the W3C XML 1.0 Recommendation.

Standards Update: XML/EDI, ICE, and PRISM (11:45

In addition to serving as host to W3C working
groups, over the past year GCA's Research Institute
has hosted a number of its own high-profile standards
activities. Special interest groups consisting
of both users and vendors belonging to GCARI are
developing each of the related standards. Get
updates on XML/EDI, ICE (Information and Content
Exchange), and PRISM (Publishing Requirements
for Industry Standard Metadata) from a GCARI representative.

OASIS, the Organization for the Advancement
of Structured Information Standards, is a non-profit,
consortium founded in 1993 and dedicated to the
promotion of open specifications for the interchange
of structured data. OASIS embraces the complete
spectrum of structured information standards including
XML, SGML and CGM. The technical officer of OASIS
provides an update of OASIS standards including
XML.org Registry and Repository, XML Conformance,
XML Tables Model, and Docbook.

Business Framework Standard Update (12:15 pm)
BizTalk is composed of industry-leading vendors,
standards bodies and corporate customers. The
BizTalk initiative is an open, standards-based
framework to exchange data and integrate applications.
Its primary goal is to drive deployment and adoption
of XML-related technologies in the marketplace.
BizTalk.org will provide resources and support
for a wide variety of companies and industry bodies
