Late-breaking
Papers
The annual XML Developers and Metastructures Conferences
have traditionally featured "bleeding edge" presentations,
so-called perhaps because they are out "beyond the
leading edge" of the information management industry.
Such presentations are about ideas and technical developments
that are so late-breakingly newsworthy that, for one
reason or another, the normal lead time required for
peer review (and provably impartial access to the
podium) is impossible.
The
organizers of the Extreme Markup Languages Conference
are reserving a small minority of the speaking slots
in order to provide the freshest possible salad again
this year. These slots will be awarded entirely at
the discretion of the conference chairs and co-chairs
only a couple of weeks before the conference actually
occurs, just as the final programs go to press.
Inevitably,
paper presentation proposals arrive after the deadline
for inclusion in the peer review process. This year,
all such proposals will be considered for the late-breaking
slots, along with the papers that did not make the
cut in the peer-review process. Preference will be
given to proposals of such a technically newsworthy
character that simple tardiness is not the reason
why the paper could not be considered in the regular
peer-review process.
If
you would like to propose a paper for presentation
at the Extreme Markup Languages Conference, you really
should submit it *before the deadline for the regular
peer review process*. If your proposal does not arrive
in time to be considered in the regular peer review
process, its chances of winning a slot in the "late-breaking
news"category are considerably smaller than they would
have been if it had arrived before the deadline.
Additional
reasons to submit your paper proposal in time to be
considered in the regular peer review process include:
*
Late-breaking papers will not benefit from the comments
of peer reviewers. The Conference Chairs will not
be able to help you, and there will not be time to
improve your paper in any event. Papers in need of
improvement will not be selected.
*
Late-breaking papers will not appear in the Proceedings.
(Yes, in the grand tradition of the SGML Conferences,
there will be Proceedings!) You won't be able to get
offprints, either.
*
Late-breaking papers will not be listed in the Preliminary
Program.
