Mr. Thompson discusses using XML and SOAP to publish enterprise resources over the Internet in general, and then discusses two specific architectures for achieving this. In the process, he also addresses what SOAP is and how SOAP can work with a variety of transports and clients. Mr. Thompson further discusses CORBA and database access using SOAP and demonstrates its use with a real-world application.

This presentation gives the audience an alternative to the XML-only approach to B2B. While transforming legacy data into XML may be useful, it is far too costly and even with new XML middleware solutions, too technically challenging.
