Ann Marie Bushell, Vice President/Sales &
Marketing, Quebecor World and PRIMEX 2000 Chair
The
2000 Scenario – technology, communications, global
markets, mergers, financing, change and more change
– is the base for the deliberations of PRIMEX 2000.
The general business climate and the technologies
of communication add up to a special set of circumstances
for the future of print media. A glimpse at each of
these is the Chair’s objective for the kickoff session.
Opening
Keynotes: The 2000 Scenario
Douglas
M. Arthur, Managing Director, Publishing/Printing
Analyst, Morgan Stanley
From
the firm – and the man – directly involved in the
magazine and catalog industries’ most recent and most
publicized IPO, the biggest printing industry merger
ever, and some major publishing industry moves, we
hear a Wall Street view of the printing, publishing,
paper, catalog insert and direct mail industries.
Joseph
M. Jacobson, Assistant Professor, MIT Media
Laboratory
Widely
publicized in the news, press and TV, the work of
the MIT Media Lab spells a new scenario for traditional
print media. With such developments as electronic
ink and paper, here’s what’s coming both short and
long term in technologies that promise to change the
means and the markets for communications.
The
recognized strength of the PRIMEX audience on Print
Media directions will not be overlooked. Past attendees
may anticipate a survey from PRIMEX 2000 Chair Bushell
to share views on key business issues, and provide
further opportunity for interaction with the presenters.

Every
segment of the Print Media world has seen significant
merger and acquisition activity
with more to come. What are the causes? What are
the benefits to the companies involved?
What is the impact on trading partners? How does
it affect the moves in the industry toward process
integration and supply chain anagement? These
moves can achieve the greater quality goals, shorter
cycle times, and lower costs that are essential
in today’s highly competitive scenario. Do consolidations
help or hinder? These and more questions are all
part of operating in the 2000 scenario and we’ve
got top industry representatives from each sector
to present their views and approaches.
