Eric
van der Vlist is a consultant and contributing editor
for xmlhack and
XML.com. He has created
and maintains <XML>fr
, a French portal dedicated to XML and 4xt,
a resource site for XT users. Eric is a seasoned software
engineer and active contributor to XML and XSL mailing
lists. He is one of the authors of the RSS 1.0 proposal.
He has developed and delivers several XML related
trainings for IT engineers and managers, one of them
covering the topic proposed here. He has an engineer
degree (B.Sc..) from the Ecole Centrale de Paris.

As
an engineer and project manager in IT services, Laurent
Vinesse has been involved in SGML/XML-based documentation,
stand-alone and WEB, applications for eight years
in the fields of Patents, Defence, Libraries, Automotive,
and Aeronautics. He is in charge of new technology
choices and development within the Technical Management
department of EURODOC-SOFILOG. EURODOC-SOFILOG is
a global documentation service provider, mainly involved
in the following industrial fields: energy, aeronautics,
defence, and railway transport.

K. vun Kannon
David
vun Kannon is a senior manager in the Financial Services
practice. He is responsible for the information architecture
for projects developed within Financial Services that
highlight the technology expertise of KPMG Consulting
and the close relationship we have with our strategic
partners in Electronic Commerce applications for the
Financial Services line of business. Mr. vun Kannon’s
accomplishments include:
- Leadership of the Specification Working Group of
the XBRL Steering Committee. XBRL (eXtensible Business
Reporting Language) is an initiative sponsored by
the AICPA to create a standard representation of accounting
and other financial reporting data. Designed the XML
vocabulary for XBRL and pioneered the use of XSchema
as a language for representing financial concepts.
- Advisement to RIXML.org on the creation of an XML
vocabulary for the investment research industry.
- Advisement to the Global Straight-Through Processing
Association on the creation of an object model and
supporting XML vocabulary to support the messaging
requirements of that organization. This XML vocabulary
will define the structure and content of all messages
involving the settlement of cross border securities
transactions handled by the GSTPA. The GSTPA is an
organization of the most technologically advanced
securities firms, and includes representatives of
global standards-making bodies.

von Riegen
Claus
von Riegen is XML Standards Architect for SAP AG.
He plays a major role in the definition of SAP's strategy
for XML standards and is active participant of ebXML
and UDDI. During his seven years with SAP he also
worked on many projects in Application Development,
including Data and Object Modeling, Workflow Management,
Interface Design and Distributed Systems Management.
Claus holds a degree in Computer Science from the
Technische Universitaet Braunschweig, Germany.

Vorthmann, Ph.D.
Dr.
Scott Vorthmann is Senior Architect for XML technologies
at TIBCO Software. He has a background in language
tools and integrated development environments, and
founded GenieWorks to produce a Java-aware program
editor for the Macintosh. Scott also served as a Systems
Scientist at Carnegie-Mellon University, Computer
Science Department.

Mr.
Vulpe has more than 15 years of experience in the
information processing industry, and is recognized
throughout the industry as a leading scientist and
visionary in the area of information management. Prior
to founding i4i, he participated in the Advanced R&D
Group of Geac Computer Corporation Limited, in distributed
text and transaction processing over distributed databases.
He established, built, and sold OnLine Inc., a consulting
firm that specialized in the implementation of complex
information technologies. In addition to being the
inventor of i4i's patented S4 Technology, Mr. Vulpe,
on behalf of Motorola, wrote the international standard
SEMI E36, used to manage semiconductor equipment documentation.
He also wrote "CMASS," the foundation for
a number of rules-based object systems. He holds an
MA, Political Economics (University of Toronto).

Laura
Walker serves as the executive director of OASIS,
where she directs the Consortium's day-to-day operations
from its Boston headquarters. Walker has been involved
with the electronic and internet publishing industries
for over 15 years, including assignments with Honeywell,
American Management Association, GTE, Intergraph,
Xerox, Chrystal Software and Proxima, where she led
the development of an eCommerce-based accessories
business unit. From 1995-1997, Walker served as Chief
Marketing Officer of OASIS. In 1998, she was named
"Mobile Maven" in recognition of her contributions
to mobile computing.

As
Vice President & Technical Director of OMG, Andrew
has overall responsibility for OMG's technology adoption
process, and also chairs the Architecture Board, the
group of distinguished technical contributors from
OMG member organizations which oversees the technical
consistency of OMG's specifications. From 1992 to
1996 he also chaired the OMG's Object Request Broker
Task Force, which was responsible for the development
and deployment of the CORBA 2 specification. Previously
Andrew spent six years with the ANSA core team in
Cambridge researching distributed object architectures,
specialising in distributed object type systems.

has spent her career working in the documentation
departments of companies in the IT industry, specialising
in the production of localised manuals. Before joining
XML Workshop Ltd. she was the documentation manager

Dieter
Weidenbrück is the founder and President of ITEDO
Software, the manufacturer of the Technical Illustration
package IsoDraw. He is the primary architect of the
IsoDraw software program. Dieter Weidenbrück
has developed a considerable experience in the field
of documentation standards and is actively participating
in standardization efforts concerning technical illustration.
He is one of the authors of the WebCGM Recommendation.
He serves as the current Chairman of the CGM Open
Consortium.

Weitzel is research assistant at the Institute of
Information Systems and, since 1997, head of the XML
Competence Center (http://xml.cnec.org)
at J. W. Goethe University, Frankfurt. In a research
project funded by the German National Science Foundation
(DFG), he is responsible for developing a standardization
framework on the diffusion of IT standards, XML/EDI
and SME integration. At Frankfurt University, Tim
is co-developer of an XML-based EDI solution that
has become the foundation of Seals GmbH (www.seals.com).
He conducts XML seminars for both students as well
as industry partners like Intershop, DG Bank and Software

Louis
Weitzman has worked at the intersection of design
and computers for over 25 years. Interested in the
computational support for the design process, he has
investigated tools and techniques to support designers
both interactively and automatically. While a student
at MIT's Media Lab, he investigated the use of visual
languages as a formalism to represent and enable design.
At the Media Lab's Visible Language Workshop, he was
Muriel Cooper's first PhD student. Louis also holds
a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of
Minnesota and a Master of Architecture in Advanced
Studies from MIT's Architecture Machine Group. He
is currently a member of IBM's Advanced Internet Technology
Group building applications that try to leverage the
power of computers while maintaining focus on the
principles of good design. Recent projects include
the Franklin XML publishing system, MyIBM personalized
portal, Virtual Resource Locators and interactive
visualizations for SuperNews articles and ActiveProduct
browsing.

Wilde is currently working at the Computer Engineering
and Networks Laboratory (TIK), which is part of the
Department of Electrical Engineering of the Swiss
Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zürich. His
interest in general are Web technologies, with a special
focus on content-related standards such as XML/XLink/XPointer.
When he is not reading new standards (or out in the
woods running...), he gives lectures or courses, tries
to make some progress with my book projects, works
on a research project dealing with flexibly and effectively
applying the topic map metaphor to the Web, or spends
some time as consultant for companies seeking help
or advice with Web-related projects.

Wood is Director of Product Technology at SoftQuad
Software Inc. She plays a major part in the design
of SoftQuad's tools for XML-based e-commerce and e-publishing,
as well as representing SoftQuad on several technical
committees. She is a popular speaker at international
conferences. Lauren was until recently Chair of the
W3C Document Object Model Working Group and has also
been an active member of the CSS and Formatting Properties
Working Group, the XML Working Group, and the XSL
Working Group, as well as the original HTML Working
Group. She holds a Ph.D. in theoretical nuclear physics
from the University of Melbourne, Australia.

Jeremiah
is a consultant with Interactive Documents International,
specializing in technical project management and services
in SGML, XML, and CGM for the aerospace/defense sector.
He has been involved in the design, development, and
implementation of ATA and CALS-based product support
systems for the past 15 years, and is the author of
over a dozen articles in this area. Jeremiah holds
a Master's degree in Instructional Technology from
the University of Central Florida, where his focus
was the use of interactive computer graphics in the
delivery of training.

is responsible for marketing development. Since joining
in early 2000 he has coordinated the European strategy
for the acquired Dyna product suite and led Enigma’s
e-business initiative in Europe. Prior to joining
Enigma, Graham worked with the e-business consultancy
of Admiral Plc and in Marketing with Air Products
and Chemicals Inc. He holds a BSc from the University
of Exeter and is a Member of the Chartered Institute
of Marketing. Graham is a regular speaker on the topic
of e-business; having presented papers at E-Commerce
for Aerospace, E-Business for Industry and Fleet Europe
among others in 2000.

Xu received her MS degree in Medical Informatics from
the University of Paris VI in September 1998, and
is now a PhD student in Medical Informatics in the
University of Paris VI. She has worked in the Medical
Informatics Department of Broussais University Hospital
in Paris since 1996. Her research interest is mainly
on the technology of middleware and distributed systems.
Mediation architectures and semantic interoperability
are her current research themes.
