At XML Europe Conference, Keynotes By Industry Leaders Will Focus On How XML Is, And Will Be Used, Across A Variety Of Web-Based Applications

Alexandria, VA (19 April 2001)—GCA and IDEAlliance, sponsors of the XML, XML Europe Extreme Markup Language and Knowledge Technologies Conferences, are pleased to announce the keynote presenters for this year’s XML Europe event.

The exceptional keynote roster for XML Europe 2001 will feature executives from a wide range of leading technology companies and organizations. Profium CEO Janne Saarela; Boeing Director of Company Wide Applications, Richard W. Smith and On-Line Senior Manager, Freelon F. Hunter; Tim Bray, CEO of Antarti.ca Systems; and XML.com’s Managing Editor, Edd Dumbill, will present attendees with an in-depth look at XML’s current trends and a provocative vision for the future of Web-based applications and the Internet.

CEO of Profium Ltd., Finland, Janne Saarela, will share his insights into XML as the enabling technology in financial information syndication. His presentation, entitled, "Real-time Financial Information Delivery in B2B Business Based on XML Technology," describes the business model of Kauppalehti Online, the biggest financial portal Web site in Scandinavia.

From The Boeing Company, USA, Richard W. Smith, Director of Companywide Applications and Freelon F. Hunter, Senior Manager, On-Line Access, will discuss e-Business at Boeing. Attendees will hear how Boeing’s e-Business strategy of e-enabling all of Boeing’s constituencies will reduce transaction costs and flow time across the global enterprise. This strategy is a key component of how Boeing maintains its role as the global leader in aerospace, defense and commercial aviation related businesses.

Tim Bray, CEO of Antarcti.ca Systems, Canada, will reflect on the importance of the Web in today’s world and discuss how despite the frenetic waves of investment, innovation and hype, the Web is still remarkably like it was when it burst to the surface seven years ago.

XML.com’s Managing Editor, Edd Dumbill, will deliver the closing keynote address entitled, "The State of XML." Mr. Dumbill’s talk will survey the current state of XML—from standards and standards-makers to XML’s role in the architecture of the next generation of computer systems. He addresses how XML’s influence is being felt more broadly than ever—not only on the Web and in business, but also in more unexpected places such as operating systems and embedded devices.

These keynote speakers join a conference program composed of speakers from over 130 organizations, such as Airbus, BMW, IBM, Microsoft, OASIS, Reuters and W3C, that are helping to develop and shape the future of the Internet and Web-based technology. For complete details on the conference program, pre-conference tutorials, Special Interest Day programmes and the Exhibition, see www.xmleurope.com.
