Dear Participant:
XML 2001 is less than two weeks away!
By now everyone
should have their specific presentation day and time. Please contact
me immediately at jharnad@idealliance.org,
if you are still unable to locate that information. Or refer to
the Schedule-at-a-Glance.
Note: Several additions have been made to the program, example -
the listing of the late-breaking news and vendor offering sessions.
Any
questions or comments should be directed to myself, the conference
coordinator:
Jane
Harnad, Director of Conference Programs
jharnad@idealliance.org

Also, please remember that we have developed this
special site to keep you informed about the event and any updates.
A link reminder will be sent (via email) to all participants when
an update or change occurs. In any case, the site is designed for
you, so please feel free to check it at anytime.
Now -- here are some important NEW developments
about your participation --
Special
Speaker Reception - DEADLINE APPROACHING
IDEAlliance is hosting a "THANK YOU" special
speaker reception during the event on Monday, December 10 from 6:30pm
- 7:30pm. If you are able or unable to attend -- please RSVP by
November 7, 2001 to jharnad@idealliance.org.
Press
Relations and Marketing - DON'T FORGET
We encourage all speakers to send out notices regarding their presentation
- to any related press representatives. We have found it to be beneficial
to both the presenter and the event. In addition, feel free to link
your company's web site to event web site - with any one of the
enclosed logos.
FYI: The official event Web address is www.xmlconference.org
Hotel Information - DEADLINE
APPROACHING
A special conference rate has been arranged
at the hotel. The reservation cutoff date is November
7, 2001. For
more details - check the hotel and reservation
information on the event site. Please
note - the hotel has informed us that it is sold out outside of
our block. Which means the price will most likely double after the
cutoff date and space will go quickly. Please do not hesitate for
it will be out of our hands.
Presentation Slides
In addition to the CD ROM Proceedings, we will be developing
a proceedings web site for the event. On this web site - we would
like to include each speaker's slide presentation. Therefore, we
are asking all speakers provide us with a copy of their slides -
no later than December 1st. Please forward your slides directly
to our Webmaster - info@idealliance.org
>>>Format
for Slides
We encourage the use of XML, but will be able to accept most
other formats. For some tools to help you create your slideshows
in XML -- please refer to a number of systems that various
XML experts have put together, which are freely available, and
may meet your needs as well as commercial non-XML-based systems.
A (probably partial) list of such tools is to be found at http://www.mulberrytech.com/walkthewalk.html.
Onsite Program
Review Process
I am developing the onsite conference program at this time. In the
week of November 5th, I will be sending out important information
to all participants - including presentation abstracts. We will
be asking all presenters to review their information and submit
any changes by November 9th.
Please note the abstracts will be sent out via email - and will
also be posted to this site.

paper sizes should be the US standard letter size (not A4 or any other size).
Tools
for Creating the Presentation
Customizations for various XML editing tools are being worked on and will
be posted when they are ready to be used. If you wish your tool to be added to
this list, please send them directly to me at jharnad@idealliance.org. Go
to current list of XML editing tools. Tools
for Creating the Slideshow You may wish to consider creating the slideshow
presentation in XML. There are a number of systems that various XML experts have

non-XML-based systems. A (probably partial) list of such tools is to be found
at http://www.mulberrytech.com/walkthewalk.html.

the paper has been written, you might want to consider publishing it in another
venue, such as Markup Languages: Theory & Practice from MIT Press (http://mitpress.mit.edu/MLANG).
Registration
- FORMS ARE PAST DUE
One speaker per talk will receive a complimentary conference pass to attend
from December 11-14. IDEAlliance will be automatically registering you for the
conference upon receipt of the speaker
information and commitment form. Please note that if you have not
already submitted your form - it is past due, so please try to do it immediately.
A confirmation letter will follow in the weeks to come. (Please note this does
not include the tutorials on December 9-10. If you would like to attend a tutorial,
please forward the tutorial title and payment information directly to jharnad@idealliance.org.)
Audio Visual All of the session rooms will include
the following standard equipment: one computer projection unit, one screen and
microphones. If using the computer projection unit, please remember that you will
be responsible for supplying the computer. Also, we will need to know the type
of computer you will be using (PC or MAC) and the resolution of your presentation
(see the form). If your presentation requires additional audio visual equipment,
please list that information on the speaker information and commitment form (we
will try to accommodate your request). Special Note: Please note that
we have not added those additional av requests made during the abstract submission
process, but will be evaluating those requests over the next couple weeks.

and AV requirements, we ask that you please complete the following
commitment form. If you have not
already submitted this form - please do so by November 2nd.
Presentation Logistics The program is divided up into
7 rooms - throughout four days. A keynote is scheduled each morning, with the
exception of Friday (the closing keynote will take the place of the morning keynote).
All keynote presentations are divided up into 45 minutes (including Q&A).
Panel discussions, including the Town Hall Meetings and Feedback Sessions can
be upto 90 minutes in length (including Q&A). Please adjust your presentations
accordingly. In addition, we would like to ask all presenters to be in the meeting
room at least 15-20 minutes before the session begins - to check the audio visual
setup. Please feel free to again review the conference Schedule-at-a-Glance
for clarification or contact me (Jane Harnad) directly at jharnad@idealliance.org.

Disney World Dolphin Hotel. Exact meeting rooms will be
listed on this site in the weeks to come.

presentations. The location of the room will be listed on the site
in the weeks to come.
