HL/TE - Electronic Publishing with XML and XSL
Instructors: John McKeown, Director, deepX Ltd. and Benjamin Jung, CEO, deepX Ltd.
This tutorial will provide an introduction to the relevant technologies for publishing XML content electronically (e.g. on the Web). In particular it will focus on using XSL Transformations (XSLT) to transform XML documents for publication.

Pre-requisites / Attendeesshould have a basic knowledge of HTML. An understanding of XML and XSL would also be beneficial, but is not essential.
Attendee Requirements / For the practical section of this tutorial each attendee will require a laptop PC with a CD-ROM drive. Attendees will also need to install a web browser containing a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) implementation.


HL - Introduction to XML and Related Technologies

This one-day course will provide developers and other interested parties with a working knowledge of the concepts and vocabulary of Extensible Markup Language (XML) and some of its associated technologies.


HL/TE - Making Knowledge Management Work with XML, XLink, Topic Maps, and AI
Instructor: H. Holger Rath, Director R&D, empolis GmbH
Enterprise Knowledge Management deals with knowledge about products, processes, people. This tutorial will present KM methodologies, discuss the uses of XML, XLink, Topic Maps in KM, introduce practical AI approaches, and describe a general system architecture.

Pre-requisites / Basic understanding of XML may help, but is not necessary.


TE - Practical Transformation Using XSLT and XPath
Instructor: Ken Holman, CTO, Crane Softwrights Ltd.
This tutorial will provide an overview of the entire scope of the Extensible Stylesheet Language Transformations (XSLT) and the XML Path Language (XPath) Recommendations, used for transforming structured information. The objectives of this course will be to understand the role and utility of the Recommendations, to overview all the constructs of the Recommendations, to design and develop XSLT scripts, and to efficiently navigate the available documentation and resources.

Pre-requisites / Knowledge of XML syntax and concepts.

HL/TE - XML Schemas
Instructor: Chris Ziener, Director of Technology, Noonetime
The course will begin with a general overview, followed by a discussion on the differences between DTD and Schemas. We will provide techniques on how to migrate existing DTDs to Schemas and explain the increased benefits of Schemas. An intensive syntactical review with handouts will be provided giving a very detailed and handy reference for users. Additionally, we will cover XML Schema creation techniques and the class will participate in the creation of schemas.

Pre-requisites /
Introduction to XML and understanding of DTDs or equivalent experience required.
