Don Chamberlin

Don Chamberlin — Don Chamberlin works at
IBM's Almaden Research Center, where he specializes in database languages,
database systems, and document processing. He represents IBM in the W3C XML
Query Working Group.
Dr. Chamberlin was a member System R research team that developed much
of today's relational database technology and, together with Ray Boyce, designed
the SQL database language. Because of these accomplishments, he was named
an ACM Fellow in 1994, and was elected to the National Academy of Engineering
in 1997. More recently, he has been helping to add object-oriented functionality
to DB2 Universal Database, and has been involved in the design of SQL language
features such as structured types and methods. His most recent book is "A
Complete Guide to DB2 Universal Database" (Morgan Kaufmann Publishers, 1998),
which covers basic database principles, the SQL language, application development,
and database administratration.
Dr. Chamberlin holds a B.S. degree from Harvey Mudd College and a Ph.D.
from Stanford University.
