The hitch-hiker's guide to the XRS 1 galaxy
a roadmap from a non-specialist

This presentation aims at helping the audience find their way in the
galaxy of
XRS.
Have you ever felt lost in the XML Related Standards maze: Namespaces,
DOM, Xlink, XSL, Xpath, Xpointer, XHTML, Schema, XUL, XMI, XML-QL, RDF, CBL,HRML,
OFX and many more... After the last XML conference I did, so I decided someone
had to try and figure out what these text, data and software standards are
and how they can be useful to us, the end-users.
As a result, this presentation will share with the audience my experience
from a user's point of view, in finding my way in the galaxy of the new XML
Related Standards.
First, a topology of the XRS will be proposed, then each standard will
be briefly described, listing what subject matter it covers, what it is for,
and who should be interested. A model to help understand their uses and relationships
will also be presented.
At the end of the talk, the participants should be able to identify
which standards are relevant to their own projects and concerns.
Note: The presentation will not contain in-depth
technical description of each standard. The point of view is non-technical,
but rather functional.
