Acknowledgements

The GCA would like to thank:
  • The four XML solution providers that agreed to make their software available to speakers to assist in the development of their papers. Each product provider created a dedicated application of their product using the XML Europe DTD. The companies and the products they provided are:

    • Arbortext - Epic Editor
    • HyperVision - WorX SE
    • i4i - S4/TEXT
    • SoftQuad - XMetaL

  • deepX Ltd. for creating HTML and PDF versions (GCA Website and Proceedings CD) of the conference proceedings as well as the AvantGo venue channel. It contains latest information about the conference, an up-to-date schedule and paper abstracts. Additional formats will be presented at the conference booth. Please visit www.deepX.com for more information.

  • Michel Biezunski, Infoloom, for creating the topic mapped version of the conference proceedings on the Cd-Rom. Michel Biezunski has used InfoLoom's Topic Map Loom Enterprise(TM) to process the XML files provided by the authors.

  • i4i (Infrastructures for Information Inc), for creating the XML Europe Viewer for viewing the conference proceedings in XML using a Microsoft Word-like interface. This S4/TEXT application has been designed to work with the XML Europe DTD, as well as some sample DTDs that will allow you to view and edit other sample XML documents included.

  • The speakers for their efforts and cooperation in preparing their papers.

Note: Authors have submitted graphics in a wide variety of formats and resolutions and hence the graphics reproduction is not of a consistent standard.

Software used

The following software was used either in the creation of these proceedings, or to provide efficient navigation of the proceedings.

Apache FOP

The FOP tool from Apache Software Foundation was used to generate PDF files from XML Formatting Objects (FOs).

DocBook Stylesheets

The FOs where created using XSL stylesheets based on the DocBook stylesheets from Norman Walsh.

Saxon

The SAXON XSLT processor (developed by Michael Kay) was used to generate HTML versions of each paper and to create index files.

Translets

A translet was used to provide an efficient search engine for the proceedings. This translet was created using Sun's XSLT compiler, a Java-based tool for compiling XSL style sheets into a lightweight and portable Java class for transforming XML documents. The XSLT compiler will be integrated in the Apache Xalan project in the near future and is used here in compilance with the Apache Software License, version 1.1

Popup Menus

The HTML version of the proceedings uses a Popup Menu utility developed by the DHTML Lab. The version used here v4.0.4) supports:

  • Internet Explorer for Windows, Version 4.x
  • Internet Explorer for Windows, Version 5.x
  • Internet Explorer for Macintosh, Version 5.x
  • Netscape Navigator, Versions 4.02 --> 4.76
  • Netscape 6
  • Other Gecko-powered browsers
