Karl F. Best - Karl F. Best is the Director of Technical Operations for OASIS, the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards. Based in the Boston area, OASIS is a nonprofit, international consortium dedicated to accelerating the adoption of product-independent formats based on public standards. These standards include XML, SGML, HTML and CGM as well as others that are related to structured information processing. Members of OASIS are providers, users and specialists of the technologies that make these standards work in practice. Information about OASIS may be found at www.oasis-open.org. Mr. Best has been involved with OASIS since its founding as SGML Open in 1993, and was a director and Chief Strategy Officer of the consortium in 1997-98. He was previously employed by Novell, Adobe, and Sun Microsystems, designing and implementing systems for the creation and delivery of electronic documentation using structured information standards. He has been a long-time participant in standards efforts related to XML and SGML, and a speaker at numerous conferences.
