Biography

Martin Bryan - From a printing and publishing background, Martin Bryan started to work with SGML in 1986, writing the first textbook on the subject in 1987. After a spell as SGML Products Manager for the Sema Group, an international consultancy group, he went on to set up his own company, The SGML Centre, in 1992. Since 1996 Martin has been working with the European Commission to enhance awareness of standards relating to the Information Society, first through the Open Information Initiative, and since February 2000 through the Diffuse Project. Other standardization activities relate to the introduction of XML into the EDI arena, particularly through the ebXML initiative. Martin also chairs the CEN/ISSS EC Workshop working group on Defining and Managing Semantics and Datatypes.
