Biography
Sara Elo Dean - Sara Elo Dean has worked in the area of Electronic Publishing and Machine Understanding of Text since 1993 when she joined the MIT Media Lab News in the Future Consortium as a research assistant. She developed PLUM, a system that contextualized news by explaining facts in terms of a reader's home community. In 1996 she joined the IBM Advanced Technology group to develop the information architecture for the Atlanta Olympic Games web site. Since then she has helped launch the IBM Patent Server, and has co-invented prototypes for the IBM Intranet and customers, including SuperNews news service, BluePages enployee directory, MyIBM personalized portal, Virtual Resource Locators and the Taxonomy Toolkit. Currently she is developing Franklin, an XML-based publishing system that integrates IBM research technologies. Sara received a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Computer Science from the University of Geneva, Switzerland, and a Master's degree in Media Arts and Sciences from the MIT Media Lab.
