Topic Map Concepts and Applications: A Manager's Overview
It is said that Topic Maps is "the GPS of the Web." This exciting new technology provides a knowledge representation of real-world subjects, collected in indexes, catalogues and taxonomies, within the computer. For managers and users, Topic Maps significantly improves searching and extends knowledge sharing within the organization. In this session, we will present the Topic Map concepts using examples from the health industry. Practical applications for business sites will be explored.

Anthony Villa - Anthony Villa is a software developer and consultant in the publishing industry specializing in the design and implementation of structured information systems. In 1992, he designed and produced some of the earliest legal information products in Canada. As NewBook's founder, he leads a team of consultants and programmers in numerous information systems and commercial products for clients in publishing, standards, telecommunications, government and health. His present work includes the exploration of the latest knowledge technology standards, such as XML Topic Maps (XTM) and Resource Description Frameworks (RDF), and their application in the next generation of information systems.
