XML Europe 2001; Focus on Your Vertical

Have you made your plans to journey to XML Europe this spring?  If not, there is still time to do so!  This year's conference is in Berlin.  The focus of the conference has shifted from "what is XML?"  to how XML is being applied today.  The theme, "Going Vertical and Beyond; How XML Powers Industry Applications" sums up the conference content nicely.  This new focus on the "vertical" means that you can concentrate on the ways XML is being used in your industry/environment.  You can learn first hand from those really doing the work.  And you can establish a network of others who are actively facing the same challenges and solving the same problems as you are!

So just how does XML Europe get "vertical?"  Well just look at the program lineup by going to www.xmleurope.com.  A series of tracks have been designed to focus on how industry is using XML to conduct business using the Web or corporate Intranets. Uses for XML range from inter-process communication to eloquent schemas describing industry-centric content.  Two prominent horizontal application areas for using XML on the Web: eBusiness and Knowledge Management are also included in the program. Both of these are used within and across many different industries, touching every type of organization.

Proceeding the conference, will be 31 (half and full day) tutorials and seminars for both executives and technical staff, featuring a wide range of topics. In addition, this year's events will host a variety of "Special Interest Day" programs on such topics as XML & Content Management; XML for Executives (an executive level "up-to-speed" seminar for those new to XML); XML & Digital Print Production; and Healthcare.

Focus on ebXML

One of the major focuses of this year's conference is on the ebXML initiative.  An entire conference track examines ebXML "Creating a Single, Global, Electronic Marketplace."  Laura Walker, executive director of OASIS and other leading players in the ebXML initiative participate in this track.  Session titles include ebXML Business Overview, ebXML Technical Overview,  Adoption Strategies for Existing XML Vocabularies and the ebXML Initiative, ebXML Messaging, ebXML Trading-Partners Specification, ebXML Registry, ebXML Business Process and a Panel: Implementing ebXML.

Vertical Industry Focus

Another track, running throughout the conference, focuses on the vertical industry applications for XML.  In this track, chaired by Dale Waldt, formerly with Thomson's Research Institute of America, you can attend sessions like How and Where XML is Changing the Markets, Topic Maps in the News, XML for the Specification of the Euronext FIX Trading Protocol, XML for Rail Systems Maintenance Documentation, Enabling Global Steel Trading with XML, and Using XML in distributed real time automation processes in textile industry.

For the Technical Audience!

XML Europe has a tradition of providing strong technical content.  This year the application-focused conference tracks  will be complemented with a wide range of technical papers on the standards, their current status, and interesting new research.

So, if you have not yet gotten your travel arrangements in order, do so now!  See you at XML Europe 2001!
