to Present at XML 2001 Conference in Orlando
December
7, 2001 - Vancouver, BC - SchemaSoft's worldwide leadership
in advancing XML technologies was recognized as a team was selected
to present two papers at the prestigious XML 2001 conference, December
9-12, in Orlando, Florida. The papers cover SchemaSoft's latest
research in XML: generating SVG graphics from XML; and developing
'smart translators' for PDF-->XML conversions.

Philip
Mansfield and Darryl Fuller will present Graphical Stylesheets:
Using XSLT to Generate SVG. The presentation covers how XML can
be "styled" into scalable vector graphics (SVG) for use in business,
project management, CAD or GIS environments. By keeping presentation
separate from data, graphical stylesheets allow you to generate
new graphics from changing or user-selected XML data. SVG, recently
released by the W3C , is an open standard for creating fast-downloading,
text-based, interactive and zoomable web graphics. SchemaSoft Catwalk
is a software tool that uses graphical stylesheets as part of its
fast and easy creation of SVG-generating Web applications.
Yuri
Khramov and Alexander Kroogman, CTO of NewspaperDirect Inc. will
present Extracting Semantic Knowledge from PDF Publications. The
paper explores 'smart translators' and recognition algorithms to
reconstruct semantic and presentation information lost while converting
PDF documents to XML. Although PDF is the online publishing format
of choice for the design and print world, the PDF creation process
strips documents of the useful and searchable semantic metadata
required for XML knowledge bases. Khramov and Kroogman show us how
to get this information back.
