Active Data Exchange CTO to Lead New Internet Standards Initiative

Martin Elected to Chair Information and Content Exchange-2 Committee at XML 2001

Orlando, Florida (December 11, 2001) - The Information and Content Exchange Authoring Group today announces the election of Dr. Richard D. Martin, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Active Data Exchange, Inc. to the post of Chairman of the ICE2 Initiative during its face to face meeting at XML 2001 in Orlando, Florida. The group is a new subcommittee formed by the Information and Content Exchange (ICE) Authoring Group to further the development of existing ICE protocols, and extend the reach of the current ICE efforts.

“Standards are necessary to move the Internet to the next level,” explained Martin. “The convergent use of industry standards in developing Internet architecture achieves a remarkable ability for corporate interoperability. Further, adherence to a set of common standards allows disparate systems to be integrated in less time at a lower cost. This interoperability enables information to be exchanged more freely, without the need to build cumbersome custom applications to bridge the differences. The time needed for integration is shortened, allowing information to be delivered in a more timely manner and also reducing the cost of delivery.”

Specific tasks to be undertaken by the ICE2 Authoring Group include:

  • Integrate latest standards (Schemas, namespaces, SOAP).
  • Express ICE as a Web Service (WSDL, UDDI).
  • Offer elegant implementation of metadata tags (PRISM and RDF).
  • Well-defined protocol extension mechanism.
  • Negotiation of non-ICE delivery, FTP and simple “get” mechanism.
  • Support the concurrent syndicator/subscriber.
  • Multi level distribution.
  • Development of a framework for a public catalog.

Dr. Martin is a Corporate Advisory Council Representative to the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), a member of the W3C’s XML Protocol Working Group, a member of the Information & Content Exchange Authoring Group (ICE-AG), and a member of the PRISM metadata standards working group under IDEAlliance. Dr. Martin has published several White Papers on managing digital assets and content syndication methods. He spoke recently at Seybold 2001 on the topic of monetizing content. Dr. Martin earned a Sc.D. and M.S. in Information and Technology Management from Southern California University, and a B.S. in Nuclear Engineering from Penn State University.
