Offers Preview of XML-driven Enterprise Collaboration and Distributed
Content Management Solution at XML 2001
X-TEND
leverages "placeless document" principles to enable holistic view
and access to distributed enterprise content
Orlando,
Florida - December 11, 2001 - i4i (Infrastructures for Information
Inc.), a leading provider of XML-powered authoring and distributed
content management software, will offer media and attendees of the
XML 2001 Conference a pre-release preview of its new enterprise
product, X-TEND (formerly known as the "Alice Project"), scheduled
for general release in Q1 2002. X-TEND is an XML-driven metadata
server that captures and organizes distributed content metadata
across multiple repositories and presents it in an organized and
intelligent manner based on relevant document content properties,
as opposed to physical location. X-TEND connects users to these
repositories via a single interface, a Web-enabled extension of
Microsoft Windows Explorer, that provides users with a singular
point of access, where information updates or additions to documents
relevant to their business interests are "pushed" in real time.
"There is a huge gap between what employees know and what they're
expected to know. With X-TEND, we've closed this gap by providing
users with a simple way to access and use the vast sea of content
they've been developing for years, but couldn't easily manage."
said Rick Makos, CEO of i4i.Inc. "Our strategy has always been to
develop easy to use, XML-driven technologies that leverage tools
users are already familiar with, such as Tagless Editor, our tool
for XML content creation in Microsoft Word. X-TEND will be the next
step in this evolution, marrying leading technology with Windows
Explorer, to ensure organizations realize the full value of their
enterprise knowledge, no matter where it is."
X-TEND
provides users with real-time access to information that may reside
across multiple locations, content repositories and databases, via
a Web-compliant extension of Microsoft Windows Explorer. X-TEND
takes document management principles to the next level by leveraging
the comprehensive mark-up benefits of XML and SGML to provide users
with a logical and relevant view of document metadata based on properties
of the contents within the document itself. X-TEND can be connected
to other document and content management systems with check in/check
out and access controls, is fully compliant with industry standard
XML and SGML protocols such as SOAP, WebDAV and Dublin Core, and
is Microsoft.NET ready.
X-TEND's
technology provides users with the following benefits:
- Eliminates
the confusion caused by distinctive behaviors of different content
and document management, version control, workflow and security
systems
- Presents
content in a single interface that is a Web-compliant extension
to Microsoft Windows Explorer
- Significantly
reduces time spent searching for information and enables easy
document retrieval across a distributed content enterprise.
- Web-enabled
technology allows for collaboration with internal/external employees,
customers, partners and suppliers.
