TE - Microsoft XML Programming

This tutorial will expose participants to XML programming using Microsoft's XML parser. Tutorial topics will include DOM, SAX and Schema programming.


TE - Developing Web Services Using Java(TM) Technology and XML
Instructor: Sridhar P. Reddy, Technology Evangelist, Sun Microsystems, Inc.
This tutorial will explain the rudiments of XML and the numerous ways in which Java and XML can work together. Java Developers will learn some basics about XML syntax, including XML tagging, DTDs and Namespaces and a brief introduction to XML Schemas. After learning these basics, the developers will then learn as to how one can build Web Services using Java APIs for XML. Here the topics
covered are JAXP, JAXB and JAXM. JAXP - Java APIs for XML Processing where examples of reading and writing XML will be presented using the standard APIs SAX and DOM promulgated by the World Wide Web Consortium. The instructor will also present information on transforming XML into other formats using XSLT and its constituents. Following this JAXB - Java Architecture for XML Binding will be discusses and compared with SAX and DOM. Finally, the JAXM - Java API for XML Messaging will be explained with examples explaining creation of SOAP messages and sending/receiving them using JAXM.

Pre-requisites / Understanding of XML, DTD, object-oriented programming and distributed computing is helpful. Must know the Java programming language and the core API.
Attendee Requirements / May wish to download Java SDK 1.4 and JAXP, from Sun's web site www.java.sun.com.

Unicode, the universal character set, is one of the foundation technologies of XML. However, it is not as widely understood as it should be, because of the unavoidable complexity of handling all of the world's writing systems, even in a fairly uniform way. This tutorial will provide the basics about using XML to save lots of money and achieve world domination at the same time.
